  WATERY DRIP FROM THE NOSE

Watery drip from the nose can be due to allergic rhinitis, Vasomotor rhinitis or CSF rhinorrhoea. In allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis the fluid drip is from both sides and the fluid is usually mucoid. CSF rhinorrhoea is an abnormal leaking of cerebrospinal fluid from the cranial cavity through the nose. The fluid is crystal clear, watery and usually from only one nose. CSF rhinorohoea is a dangerous condition which can result in serious meningitis. A high index of suspicion is required to make a diagnosis. Once recognized, the leak should be closed.
